Are you ready to push your limits? Our Extreme Rafting expedition is specifically engineered for adrenaline junkies, experienced paddlers, and physically fit adventurers who want to face the untamed fury of the Vjosa River. While our half-day tour floats through the wider, gentler valleys, this full-day extreme adventure takes you deep into the narrowest, most rugged gorges of the Albanian mountains, where the water is forced through steep limestone channels, creating powerful Class III and IV rapids.
Because the Vjosa is Europe’s last free-flowing wild river, its extreme sections are entirely unpredictable, shaped purely by seasonal snowmelt and mountain rain. You will be tackling "stopper waves," deep drops, and turbulent cross-currents that require intense teamwork, split-second reactions, and raw physical power. Guided exclusively by our elite, senior white-water experts, this is not just a sightseeing tour—it is a true athletic expedition into the heart of the Balkan wilderness.
We start earlier than our standard tours. Meet at our Përmet headquarters where our senior guides will assess your fitness level. You will be equipped with heavy-duty wetsuits, specialized white-water helmets, and high-flotation vests. The safety briefing here is intense and covers capsize recovery, defensive swimming, and advanced paddle commands.
The extreme sections of the Vjosa cannot be reached by normal buses. We load onto our 4x4 off-road vehicles and embark on a rugged journey deep into the upper canyons. The scenic drive is an adventure in itself, passing through isolated mountain villages before descending steep trails to the secret launch point.
We hit the water fast. After a quick sync drill, we drop straight into the upper gorge. For the next three hours, you will battle intense rapids, navigate technical boulder gardens, and feel the massive hydraulic power of the river. Teamwork is mandatory to keep the raft on line.
After conquering the final rapid, we pull into a secluded riverbank. Here, surrounded by towering cliffs, we serve a hearty, traditional Albanian lunch packet to restore your energy before our off-road vehicles transport the team back to civilization.
While previous experience is highly recommended, it is not strictly mandatory if you are in excellent physical condition, are a strong swimmer, and possess a high sense of adventure. You must be prepared to paddle hard and follow strict guide instructions.
Falling out (a "swim") is a real possibility on the Extreme Tour! Our senior guides are trained in swift-water rescue. You will be taught the "white-water defensive swimming position" during the briefing, and we use specialized throw-bags to pull you back into the raft quickly.
