Escape the crowds and step into the pristine wilderness of the Albanian Alps. Our Mountain Hiking tours in Përmet offer an unparalleled opportunity to explore the towering peaks of the Trebeshinë-Dhëmbel-Nemërçkë mountain range and the lush, sprawling forests of the Bredhi i Hotovës (Hotova Fir) National Park. As you ascend ancient shepherd trails that have connected remote stone villages for centuries, you will be rewarded with sweeping, panoramic views of the entire Vjosa River valley stretching out below.
This is not just a walk in the woods; it is a deep dive into the rich biodiversity and cultural heritage of the Balkans. Our expert local guides will lead you safely through diverse terrain, ranging from dense pine forests to alpine meadows bursting with wild mountain tea and endemic flowers. Along the way, you'll learn about the traditional ways of life in these highlands, spot rare wildlife, and breathe the purest mountain air in Europe. Whether you are an experienced alpinist or an active nature lover, this trek will leave you breathless in the best way possible.
Meet your guide at our Përmet center. We will go over the trail map, check your footwear, and distribute walking poles (if requested) and a light energy pack before we set out towards the mountains.
We skip the boring asphalt walking! A quick 4x4 ride transports us out of the valley and directly to the mountain trailhead, maximizing our time in the actual wilderness.
We begin our trek up the historic shepherd routes. The pace is steady and comfortable, with plenty of stops to photograph the native flora, identify local wildlife tracks, and take in the increasingly spectacular views of the gorge below.
Upon reaching our scenic vantage point, we take a long break. Enjoy a packed mountain picnic while looking out over the majestic Dhëmbel and Nemërçkë peaks, followed by a relaxed descent back to the valley.
You do not need to be an elite athlete, but you should be comfortable walking uphill on uneven terrain for a few hours. This is a moderate hike, and our guides always adjust the pace to suit the group.
Mountain weather can change quickly. We hike in light rain (bring a jacket!), but if there is a severe storm or lightning risk, we will reschedule your trek or offer a full refund for your safety.
